The Chartered Engineer
Stuart Bateman

Welcome to

The Chartered Engineer.

My name is Stuart Bateman and I started this site because after I finished University I thought I knew enough to start progressing into Engineering and now after 20 years I can see that I wasn’t prepared, that I had to learn so many different things and at times they weren’t directly related to Engineering.

So, this site is aimed at young engineers and engineering students (but anyone is welcome to explore as the topics and blogs will relate to you as well), where I hope to share, answer questions and pass on what tips / tricks & knowledge I’ve gained to help you get a better start in industry.

I go through my career path, why I decided to become Chartered and then apart from my Blog that tackle daily engineering topics, I share resources / sites / books / videos / methods and techniques that have helped developed me and what I rely on for my job.

If you have any questions relating to Engineering or anything I talk about then I invite you to get in touch, else please explore!

Also, I do offer services to help others with their development and implementation of Lean Manufacturing, but if you’re here to find out more on Lean then head to this post which starts talking and teaching you what you need to know. My advice is to start with the low hanging fruit and work your way up in terms of size of projects and improvements, good luck and let me know how things go!

Resources!

Are you looking to expand your knowledge of Engineering, or are you a professional wanting to know more about Lean Manufacturing , Personal development and Six sigma, or maybe you’re a freshly  graduated engineer looking for the path to Chartered Engineer.

Then you’ll want to head on over to my Resources section!

Out now, my own Engineering log book that I use daily to task manage with.

I believe having a hobby that allows engineers to practise and hone their engineering skills is essential to their development.

I have a intrinsic curiosity to find out how things work, using this knowledge I then design solutions to daily problems I come across in work or at home. I enjoy creating and even more seeing my designs working and being used by others, here is a selection of my homebrewed 3D models.

I also encourage other engineers to take up a hobby it doesn’t have to be the same as me, but having a creative outlet allows engineers to problem solve, create, test, evaluate, iterate and refine, take a look at my new Projects category in my Blog posts to see some suggestions to start you off!

My Thoughts Each month on LinkedIn I post a blog on whats been on my mind recently (mainly on the Professional topics), below are my most recent ones.

Feel free to connect with me on LinkedIn to chat about these thoughts or any other topic I cover, I welcome new ideas and comments.
